Base Jumper

I'm trying to get all of my posting done early so I won't annoy anyone for the rest of the day *smiles*

I still have so many photographs from Idaho I would like to share and some stories too, but I don't want to bore anyone because I know how it can be when someone travels and they post a lot of pictures that have absolutely no meaning for those who were sitting at home !

I did want to share these because this is something I got to see up close .  We were sitting outside at a restaurant which had a spectacular view of the Snake River Canyon and the bridge . The waiter came out and told us that there was a guy getting ready to base jump.  Apparently, the bridge is a favorite spot for people who throw caution to the wind . I admire them, but no no no, that is not for me. I'm too much of a chicken to ever even imagine jumping off a bridge and hoping a parachute opens.

This guy didn't jump from the bridge though. He climbed over the railing and jumped over the side of the cliff.  It's pretty far down, but I don't think my pictures captured the perspective I had. I was actually standing right next to the railing that the young man in the bottom picture was leaning on. These boys were visiting from the UK.  As you see, the jumper landed in some small trees and the young man who was with him had a great laugh over that.   Me, I was just glad his parachute opened.  It all happened so fast, I was surprised I got one shot !

The view from the restaurant.

A couple little side notes.  The waiter told us that the day before, a girl who was attempting her first jump got caught on the bridge and hung there for quite some time until they could rescue her.

And a week or so before, a 73 year old man set his parachute  on fire and jumped from the bridge in what they say was a botched stunt .... hmmm, I guess it was.   I had heard about that but did not catch where it had happened.  I'm glad it wasn't the day we were there.
