Random Idaho stuff (pictures and my thoughts)

As the plane was nearing Boise, I happened to look out and it was brown as far as the eye could see. My first thought was "my poor baby is living in a desolate wasteland !"  She kept telling me ahead of time not to get my hopes up, but I didn't really expect what I saw from the air.  I kind of had a sick feeling.  Well that changed later on, but for the moment I just felt badly that she was out there in this-

Wait !!!  I think I see some green down there !!  But wait.... is that a dry river bed or is it just brown water ?   My poor baby !!!!

And then lo and behold, I realized that they were pieces on a game board too. (Insert laughter here, I know what this was, but hey the truth ruins the story)

I was feeling kind of sick about then, but when the plane landed, I put on my cheerful mama face and prepared to greet my baby girl and my son in law with enthusiasm, which I did.  But as we were walking over to get my luggage, I blurted out "you live in a desolate wasteland" !!!   OOPS

To which my daughter laughed and said, "I told you that Mom".

It was 2 ish in the afternoon Mountain time and 4 ish my time so the kids decided to take me into downtown Boise to get something to eat.  Boise is a pretty town and I got a few pictures there which I will share at another time.   I was feeling better about things and I knew that they went into Boise pretty often so she wasn't completely stuck out in the desolate wasteland.

I mentioned that it was a nice town and she said yes it is, but wait till you see Mountain Home. Mountain Home is where my son in law is stationed and it is a small town stuck back in the 60's as far as the houses and buildings.  There are some newer houses though and they do have the usual WalMart and a few other businesses like every other town, but the feel of the town overall is 60's.  I really didn't get many pictures there, but I will post the ones I got along with the Boise pictures.

On the ride from Boise to Mountain Home, my daughter asked me what I thought.  All I could say is, "it is different " .  She just laughed and said wait, it gets worse.   I thought to myself, it can't get any worse.

Now to be fair, I was tired having been up since 5 AM my time and 3 AM their time and it is a 6 hour flight to get there with one stop in Denver, and I had just experienced that Colorado Rocky Mountain High , so this WAS different.   My opinion changed later though, but my first impression was ...... ohhhhhhhhhhh this is different, but the mountains look sad. Well my only experience with mountains before this trip were the Smokies and the Blue Ridge , and way back when I was a little kid the Ozarks.  And then having seen the snow capped Rockies......well these just looked sad.   LOL

Here are  a few shots taken from the car on the way to their house in Mountain Home.

Sagebrush as far as the eye could see.

The next day we went out and about and having had a good nights rest, my opinion began to change.

But I will save that for another post.

  3. Awesome pics! I can see why you say they look sad. It's all in the view. After living in Washington state in my youth, you could call these hills. As you know when you see the snow capped mountain in the middle of June! (-:

  4. Yes, I realize these are not the "big" mountains, but for a girl who grew up in Indiana and now lives in Florida, any hill is a mountain LOL
